Aerobic Respiration Flashcards
How do cells transfer energy?
Your body needs energy for basically everything it does. You get your energy from food. This is called aerobic respiration.
state the word equation for aerobic respiration
Glucose + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water (+ energy)
Where does respiration happen?
Happens inside tiny structures inside your cell called mitochondria
How does glucose get into cells?
It travels around your body after being broken down by digestive system. It dissolves in the liquid part of your blood called plasma.
How does oxygen get into your cells?
When you breathe in air, it fills the alveoli in your lungs. The oxygen the diffuses into your bloodstream which is then being carried around by red blood cells. Red blood cells contain haemoglobin (the substance that makes them red)
How does carbon dioxide leave the body?
It’s transported to the air sacs and is then exhaled.
