SMOKE/CO DETECTORS

CO alarm installed prior (2008) shall be replaced when the detector exceeds useful life or 6 MONTHS , whichever is later.

Answer 1

all CO alarms installed after this date (2008) should emit AUDIBLE NOTIFICATION at the expiration of useful life of alarm.

complaints : assumed by HPD and DOB…..refer public to “311” for follow up by HPD/DOB

Question 2

SMOKE detectors
smoke alarm installed prior to the effective date (2008) who useful life is not know shall be replaced with an alarm within 7 YEARS of this effective date (all should be replaced…smoke and CO)

ALL SMOKE alarms installed after this date (2008) …NON REMOVABLE , NON REPLACEABLE BATTERY THAT POWERS THE ALARM FOR A MINIMUM OF 10 YEARS and shall emit an AUDIBLE notification at the expiration of the useful life of the alarm
