Smart & Modern Fabrics Flashcards
What is a smart fabric?
Sense, react and adapt to certain conditions
What are interactive fabrics?
Incorporate electronics that are reactivated by a power source whilst being soft and comfortable
What is Gorix?
A carbonised fibre with conductivity used to heat car seats
What is Soft-Switch?
Conductive threads woven or knitted with pressure sensors used as audio devices
What is Stomatex?
Biomimentic fabric (copies nature)
How does Stomatex work?
Dome shaped vapour chambers have a tiny pore in the centre. When resting the excess body heat and persipiration rise to the dome and escape through the pores.
What are the properties of Stomatex?
Weatherproof
Durable
Comfortable
What is nanotechnology?
When thin layers of nanoparticles are attached to fabrics but doesnt change the feel of the fabric.
What are nano fibres?
Made from carbon or synthetic polymers. Thin and light, strong and non woven
What does waterproof mean?
Fully resistant to the absorption of water
What does water-repellent mean?
Resistance of a fabric to wetting
What is Kevlar?
Woven fabric to resist abrasion used for bulletproof vest. Strong and made chemically. Lightweight and flexible
What is Nomex?
flame resistant fabric
What is Tencel?
Modern regenerated fabric made from wood pulp and minimised energy and waste. combines best with natural and synthetic fibres
What is Fastskin
Mimics shark skin to reduce drag in water with its rough surface
