What is the ACTF&R’s definition of small gear?
Refers to the miscellaneous tools and small items of equipment used everyday by fire fighters.
What does “making up” mean?
The place up and clean up of equipment following a job.
What are some small gear considerations?
-it’s everyone’s responsibility to check the operational status of the gear
-be aware of stowage and operations of each tool
-it’s better to finds a fault before you need to use the tool.
What is the appliance inspection involve?
- checking the appliance is in operational condition (water, oil, tyres)
- check the operation of the pumps
- inspect the appliance for body damage
-check the appliance inventory
- operate and clean all the equipment as per the individual specifications
What does ‘re-stow’ mean?
- swapping your appliance for a spare appliance (truck) and taking all your personal and specialised equipment and putting it on the new appliance
- example of ‘re-stowing’ is if the appliance needs a service, you will drive out and swap with a spare appliance. You will be required to unpack the truck and your personal equipment and put on the new appliance.
What are the 5 ‘R’s when dealing with faults?
Report - to SO
Rectify - try and fix it at station
Replace - if needed
Repair - send in for specialised repair
Re-stow - get a replacement equipment
