Resuscitation Kit Flashcards
What are the resuscitation kits 3 main functions?
1: oxygen resuscitation
2: oxygen therapy
3: suction
What are the 4 main safety feature in handling oxygen:
1: no smoking or naked flame
2: protect from extreme heat
3: keep free from oil and grease
4: handle with care (don’t drop)
What is in a resuscitation kit bag?
1: oxygen cylinder
2: pressure reducer
3: bag refill valve (demand valve)
4: soft resuscitation bag
5: suction
6: ancillary equipment (airway tool, masks, gloves)
When do you replace an oxygen cylinder?
When it has less than 100 bars
What are the characteristics of an oxygen cylinder?
1: all white
2: has a on/off value
3: has a black N on neck
4: has a twin pinned index on the yoke
What does BVM stand for?
Bag Valve Mask - used for resuscitation emergencies
What are some complications from using a BVM?
1: hyperventilation
2: over inflation of lungs
3: resistance on the bag
4: vomiting by patient
What is included in the Ancillary equipment?
1: Oropharyngeal (airway tool)
2: therapy mask
3: resuscitation mask
4: suction cathater
How do you measure an airway tool?
From side of mouth to earlobe or centre of lips angled to the end of jaw
When using the suction, what position should the patient be in?
On their side (NOT on their back)
When do you give oxygen?
-When the patient has below 92% oxygen saturation level
- when the patient has been in a house fire or inhaled smoke
What is the difference between the resuscitation mask and the therapy mask?
Resuscitation mask delivers 100% oxygen
Therapy mask delivers 40-60% oxygen
Complications of a OPA (airway) tool?
- wrong size can obstruct breathing
- May become obstructed with vomit
-can cause gagging if wrong size
When to use oxygen
- during resus
- bleeding
-burns - shock
- asthma
- anaphylacixis
What is the airflow range for the oxygen therapy mask?
The therapy mask valve tap has 2 settings, 8 or 15.
