What does Small Gear Refer too?
Refers to the misc tools on appliance.
What are good small gear practices/firemanship/work ethic?
Correct tool for the job.
Don’t drop gear.
Don’t drag gear.
Clean, dry and regrease tools after use.
Correct disposal or cleaning of contaminated equipment.
If you don’t know, ask.
Why is it important that all FF’s familiarise themselves with small gear and where it’s stored?
It is important to know where all the gear is stalled especially when not working on your regular appliance.
Whose responsibility is it to conduct the daily checks?
All firefighters not just motor driver.
What can happen if a unknown fault is present?
The lives of civilians and firefighters can be put at risk.
What are the five components of an appliance inspection?
Appliance is in operational order
Pump is in working order
Inventory is checked for missing equipment
Appliance is checked for damage
Tools are clean and operated per manu specs
Define “Making Up” and its principals.
Is the process of cleaning and restocking the appliance after an incident.
Principals: Try too only strip one appliance, motor driver to be informed of taken equipment. Gear is cleaned and regreased. Dispose of and replace single use equipment.
Define Re-Stowing and its principals.
Re-stowing involves changing over to a spare appliance due to a fault or missing equipment in the primary appliance. Personal items and cabin equipment will need to be transferred e.g radios, BA’s.
New appliance need to be inspected for missing gear.
What are the Five R’s of fault reporting?
Report to SO
Rectify if possible
Replace
Repair through workshops
Re-Stow if required
