SLT (learning Approach) Flashcards
what is the Social learning theory
way of explaining behaviour that includes both direct and indirect reinforcement, combining learning theory with role of cognitive factor
what is vicarious reinforcement
reinforcement which is not directly experienced but occurs through observing someone else being reinforced for a behaviour. This is a key factor in imitation
What did Albert Bandura say
agreed with behaviourist approach
Social learning theory proposed different way in which people learn
through observation and imitation
SLT suggest learning directly through operant and classical conditioning but also indirectly
what are mediational processes
cognitive factors that influence learning and come between stimulus and response
what are the 4 mediational processes
Attention - the extent to which we know certain behaviours
Retention - how well the behaviour is remembered
Motor reproduction - the ability of the observer to perform the behaviour
Motivation - the will to perform the behaviour which is often determined by whether the behaviour was rewarded or punished
what is identification
when the observer associates themselves to the role model and wants to be like the role model
what is modelling
is the process of imitating a role model
what is a role model
a person who is seen to posses similiar characteristics to the observer and have a high status
What was Banduras research
Bobo Doll
- recorded behaviour of young children who watched an adult behave aggresively towards a Bobo doll
-children were later observed playing with various toys including Bobo doll
-Played/behavioural aggresively towards the doll
What is imitation
Copying behaviours of others
