What is Id
Is the primitive part of our personality operates PLEASURE PRINCIPLE and gets what it wants. It is a seething mass of unconscious and instinct. Needs demand gratification of what it wants . Id is present at birth
What is Ego
Is the reality principle which mediates between the two personality’s . Develops atound age of 2 and REDUCES conflict between id and superego. Manages this by employing demand characteristics
What is superego
Is formed at the end of the phallic stage at 5 years old. It internalise the sense of right and wrong doings based on moralistic principles. Punishes the ego for it its wrongdoings through guilt
What are psychosexual stages
Five development stages that all children pass through
Each stage there’s different conflict the outcome of determines future development
What is the first stage
Oral stage 0-1 year
Focus of pleasure is the mouth mothers breast are object of desire
What is consequence of unresolved conflict of oral stage
Oral fixation- smoking biting nails sarcastic critical
What is the 2nd stage
Anal 1-3
Focus of pleasure is the anal
Child gains pleasure in withholding and expelling faeces
What is the unresolved consequence of anal stage
Anal retentive -perfectionist and obsessive
Anal expulsion - thoughtless and messy
