What is conformity?
A form of social influence where group pressure, real or imagined results in a change in behaviour
What is compliance?
A temporary type of conformity where we outwardly go along with the majority view, but privately disagree.
What is identification?
Adjusting to the ides of a group both publicly and internally because membership is desirable
What is internalisation?
A public and internal change in opinion. Majority view is taken on as it is believed to be correct and endures without presence of the group
What is normative social influence?
The desire to be liked and accepted by a group
What is information social influence?
Being guided by other who you believe to be correct
What is obedience?
Complying with the demands of an authoritative figure
What is an agent state?
Acting as an agent for an authoritative figure and therefore not responsible for personal behaviour
What is Locus of control?
The sense an individual has about what directs events in our lives
What is minority influence?
A type of social influence that motivates individuals to reject established minority group norms
What is social change?
The way in which society changes beliefs, attitudes and behaviour to create new social norms
