slt Flashcards
slt
- bandura - we learn indirectly by observing + imitating behaviours of others
- children observe gender behaviour at school home etc, learn the consequences of it, and decide if its worth repeating through vicarious liability
girls = identify with other girls = more likely imitate
boys = observe mothers = less likely to imitate
praise of gender behaviour = increases chance of them repeating it , punishment = reduces it
mediational processes
processes of attention , retention , motor reproduction and motivation need to be present for imitation of gendered behaviour to happen

p- research supports role of modelling
e- Perry and bussey, showed children aged 8-9 films of other children picking apples or pears, found that children had then picked a fruit that they had a seen a same sex model choosing
e- BUT children only imitated if it wasn’t counter to stereotypes e.g. a male wearing a dress
l- effects of modelling may be limited to existing stereotypes
