4 methods to stabilize sling loads
- Reduce airspeed of AC: least desirable should be 60 knots or <
- Add weight to the load
- Streamline the load
- Sling length: the shorter the better but at least 6 ft long
Signal Man
positions the load
supervises the inspection
20-25 meters in front of AC at the 2 o’clock
Static discharge wand reference
FM 4-20.197 Appendix D to fabricate a field expedient static discharge wand
grounding rod minimum
6-8 inches in firm ground
24 inches in sandy or loose soil
45 degrees angled away from the load
static can form within 5 seconds and jump 12 inches
Brown/White outs hook up procedures
rig load with 20 or 40 ft extension and lay to the left of load
Classification of sling loads
- Certified: Natick
- Suitable:
- Unique: discretion of CDR, name and rank on DA 7382
- Prohibited
