Sliding Filament Theory Flashcards
What is happening right before the sliding filament Theory begins?
Calcium is low and actin and myosin are not interacting
What happens in the first stage of the sliding filament Theory?
Calcium is released and the binding sites are unlocked by moving tropomyosin
What happens in the second stage of the sliding filament Theory?
Myosin heads form cross-bridges and connect to actin
What happens in the third stage of the sliding filament Theory?
Myosin heads pull the actin filaments inward
What happens in the fourth stage of the sliding filament Theory?
Myosin heads release the actin. Energy from ATP starts the cycle again.
How does the sliding filament Theory end?
Calcium is removed and the muscle goes back to its relaxed state
