sleep Flashcards
sen - what is it?
sleep - periodic, natural loss of conciousness
rytm okołodobowy
circadian rhythm - internal biological clock thanks to which we can synchronize with the 24 hour cycle of the day, impacts sleep-wake cycles, temperature, hormonal and digestive cycles as well
NREM
non rapid eye movement sleep - encompsses all sleep stges except for REM sleep
REM
rapid eye movement sleep - recurring sleep stage during which vivid dreams commonly occur
hypnagogic sensations
hipnagocznine wrażenia - wyraziste doznania zmysłowe, które pojawiają się w momencie przechodzenia ze stanu czuwania w sen
phases of sleep
NREM-1, NREM-2, NREM-3, REM (USUALLY PEOPLE GO THROUGH THIS CYCLE 5 TIMES IN 8 HOURS)
NREM-3
slow-wave sleep, 30 minutes, hard to awaken due to delta waves
NREM-2
you are more relaxed, 20 minutes, has periodic sleep spindles, you can be awaken without difficulty but clearly asleep
wrzeciona senne?
sleep spindles - bursts of rapid, rhytmic brain-wave activity
NREM-1
may experience fantastic images resembling hallucinations, you may have sensation of falling down or floating (leg or arm can jerk) hypnagogic sensations might be incorporated into memory, 5 minutes (?)
hypna
bezsenność
insomnia - inability to sleep
lęki nocne
night terrors - similar to nigtmares but more severe, during deep sleep, product of REM sleep
lunatykowanie
sleepwalking
bezdech senny
sleep apnea - breathing interruption during sleep
narkolepsja
narcolepsy - suddenly falling asleep, no matter time and place; genetic disorder of REM-sleep functioning
wpływ niedoboru snu
sleep deprivation impact - increased risk of blood pressure, reduced strenght in muscles, inflammation and arthritis, increased production of fat cells, decreaced production of immune cells - inceased risk of infections, decreased ability to focus attention, store memory et cetera

odbicie REM(?)
REM rebound- the compensatory increase of the frequency, depth, and intensity of rapid-eye-movement (REM) sleep following sleep deprivation or significant stressors
