NSAIDs, Corticosteroids, Immunosuppressant agents, Antimalarial

SLE: Role of NSAIDs?
A
Reduce inflammation and pain
Contraindicated with kidney disease

A
Prednisone: inflammation and immunosuppression
Monitor for fluid retention, HTN, impaired kidney.
Don’t stop, taper
Elderly at risk for fractures

Methotrexate, Azathioprine, Belimumab
Monitor for toxic and infection
Bone marrow suppression
Avoid live vaccines 30 days before starting

Hydroxychloroquine - suppression of synovitis, fever, and fatigue
Risk for skin lesions from UV
