ORAL HYPOGLYCEMICS

Biguanides - Glucophage (metformin)

A

Reduces insulin resistance, decreased sugar production in liver, take with meals

lower blood glucose (inhibits glucose production, decrease absorption of glucose, increase insulin sensitivity)

No alcohol - risk for lactic acidosis
Discontinue before imaging tests (contrast) - 48 hrs (risk for kidney damage and lactic acidosis)

D/N, FLATULENCE, INDIGESTION, ABDOMINAL PAIN
