Skinner: Behavioral Analysis Flashcards
Avoids speculations about hypothetical constructs and concentrates almost exclusively on observable behavior
Radical behaviorism
Responses followed by a satisfier tend to be learned
Law of effect (Thurstone)
Exists but they should not be used to explain behavior
Internal states
Type of conditioning wherein a neutral (conditioned) stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus until it is capable of bringing about a previously unconditioned response
Classical conditioning
Any stimulus that naturally and automatically triggers a specific response
Unconditioned stimulus
A previously neutral stimulus that, after becoming associated with the unconditioned stimulus, eventually comes to trigger a conditioned response
Conditioned stimulus
The learned response to the previously neutral stimulus
Conditioned response
An unlearned response that occurs naturally in reaction to the unconditioned stimulus
Unconditioned response
A process wherein people may respond similarly to different environmental stimuli
Stimulus generalization
Any stimulus that when added to a situation increases the probability that a given behavior will occur
Positive reinforcement
The strengthening of behavior through the removal of an aversive stimulus
Negative reinforcement
Decreases a behavior either by presenting an aversive stimulus or by removing a positive one
Punishment
