A chronic skin condition that occurs when poor circulation in the lower legs causes blood to pool, leading to inflammation and skin changes

Common in elders.
herpes whitlow
A painful infection of the finger or toe caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV)
Contgations, spread through direct contact with the infected person’s skin or bodily fluids

Even after a lesion has scabbed over, herpes is still a local contraindication for massage.
impetigo
Skin infection that causes red sores on the face, usually around the nose and mouth. The sores rupture, ooze for a few days, then form a yellow-brown crust.

Seborrheic eczema
In infants, called cradle cap. Produces yellowish, oily patches, usually in the skin folds around the ears and nose or on the scalp, where it can cause extreme dandruff.
Nodular melanoma
The most aggressive type of skin cancer. It is significantly elevated from the skin and it often penetrates deeper into the tissue than other types.

A cancer of the skin cells that arise in keratinocytes (outermost layer of the skin) superficial to the basal layer.
Hidradenitis suppurativa

Inadequate blood flow to skin that is compressed for prolonged periods.
Also known as bed sores.

Blisters may appear on the genitals as well as the thighs, buttocks, and over the sacrum.
Tinea Pedis
Highly contagious, non-cancerous.
Fungal infection of the foot, blisters usually start between the third and fourth digits. (a.k.a. Athlete’s Foot)

fungal infection rash on the body. Highly contagious, non-cancerous
Butcher’s Wart
Look like common warts, but are caused by a strain of HPV associated with meat handling.

eczema herpeticum
skin infection, occurs when HSV infects damaged skin. contagious, non-cancerous
third degree burn

Penetrates through the epidermis to the dermis or deeper. May present with white or black charred edges.
necrotizing fasciitis

A.K.A. “flesh eating bacteria” caused by many different pathogens, but commonly strep or staph infection. can cause circulatory shock and death.
neurodermatitis
Non-contagious, non-cancerous
caused by a small injury or irritation such as a bug bite, creates an inflammatory response and chronic itchiness with pathological cycle.
folliculitis
Highly Contagious, Non-cancerous
multiple infections in close proximity, confined to hair follicles. Outbreaks occur in a diamond-shaped pattern
erythroelangiectatic acne rosacea
chronic skin condition that causes visible blood vessels in face. non-contagious, non-cancerous
tinea manuum
fungal infection on the hand. Highly contagious, non-cancerous
cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma
skin cancer in the flat cells of the epidermis. non-contagious
morpheaform basal cell carcinoma
Cancer that begins in the lower part of the epidermis. non-contagious
allergic contact dermatitis
allergic reaction from a substance coming into contact with the skin. non-contagious, non-cancerous
Dyshidrosis
eczema with tiny, fluid-filled blisters that appears on the palms and fingers.

malignant lesions to form in skin, lymph nodes, and other organs; Red, purple, or brown skin blotches.
kaposi’s sarcoma
Contagious; Wingless insects that tend not to live directly on their host, but in the host’s clothing, especially in the seams. They visit their hosts to take blood meals, causing an itchy reaction. Fairly rare except among homeless and transient populations. Potential vectors of communicable diseases.

Characterized by ruptured vesicles that look more like ulcers than blisters on a red base
