Behcet’s
Genital lesions
Painful oral and genital ulcers; scarring on scrotum;
associated with pathergy.
Most common with patient origin from Asia or Middle East.
Chancroid
Genital lesions
Painful, suppurative inguinal lymph nodes;
kissing ulcers on thighs, ragged edges of ulcers;
diagnose Hemophilus ducreyi by culture or PCR
Herpes simplex
Genital lesions
Painful, multiple small vesicles, not nodules
Granuloma inguinale
Genital lesions
Painless chronic friable ulcers without adenopathy;
diagnose with direct stain.
(Donovaniosis / Klebsiella granulomatis)
Syphilis
Genital lesions
Painless ulcer (chancre) with painless non suppurative nodes
Lymphogranuloma venereum
Genital lesions
Painless ulcer with painful suppurative inguinal nodes;
diagnose by NAAT
C. trachomatis (L1, L2, and L3)
Painless Genital lesions
Granuloma inguinale (Donovaniosis / Klebsiella granulomatis)
Syphilis
Lymphogranuloma venereum [C. trachomatis (L1, L2, and L3)]
