herpes simplex virus 1 + 2
painful oral or genital, single or grouped vesicles, recurrence in a similar spot, transmitted by respiratory droplets
herpes zoster (shingles)
linear distribution of grouped vesicles and pustules on erythematous base resembling chixpox
plantar warts
caused by HPV, on the bottom surface of foot, painful w/ pressure, cone-shaped w/ black dots
verruca vulgaris
caused by HPV, flesh colored papule on epidermis
carbuncle
multiple, interconnecting furuncles
cellulitis
inflammation of subq tissue, Staph aureus and streptococci, deep inflammation
hot tender erythematous and edematous area w. diffused border (untreated-> gangrene)
erysipelas
superficial cellulitis on dermis, red hot sharply demarcated plaque (face and extremities)
folliculitis
usually staph, areas w/ friction, moisture, rubbing, or oil
small pustule at hair follicle w/ minimal erythema- will crust
furuncle
deep infection of staph around hair follicle, associated w/ severe acne or seborrheic dermatitis
tender, erythematous, painful, draining pus, necrotic debris
furunculosis
many furuncles
impetigo
thick honey colored crust
basal cell carcinoma
depression in center or erythematous and pearly
squamous cell carcinoma
thin, scaley, erythematous, progresses to have film nodules and scales or horn-like
dysplastic nevi
greater than 5mm, irregular borders, various shades of color
psoriasis
silvery scaly plaques
