What are the three layers of the skin?
- epidermis
- dermis
- subcutaneous fat
What is cyanosis?
Poor circulation, decreased oxygen which results in a blueish tone
What is pallor?
Unhealthy, pale appearance
What is diaphoresis?
Sweating
What jaundice?
Yellowing of the skin due to excess bilirubin
What is vitiligo?
Pigment is lost from areas of the skin causing whitish patches
What is cherry angioma?
Common skin growths, broken blood vessels.
What is Psoriasis?
Skin disease. Red, itchy, scaly patches.
What is Paronychia?
bacteria or fungal infection where the nail and skin meet
What is clubbing of the nails caused by?
Reduced about of oxygen in the blood. Usually associated with heart and lung disorders
What is involved in a hair and scalp assessment?
- colour
- distribution
- texture
- lesion
What is a pressure ulcer? And the four stages?
Any lesion caused by unrelieved pressure.
- Reddened area
- Blister
- Open sore
- Deep tissue injury (pressure ulcer)
What does the Braden scale measure?
Predicts the risk for pressure sores.
Less than 18 points considered a risk.
