Skin #2 Flashcards
Basal cell carcinoma
Most common, mildest & non-melanoma form of skin cancer. Small red bump looks like blood vessel.
Signs of infection
Heat, aching, redness, pus, swelling.
Middle part of the muscle
Belly
Muscular system
Contracts and moves various parts of the body and supports skeletal system.
What is a papule
A small, red, elevated protrusion of skin, usually not containing pus.
Describe epidermis
(The basal layer) the outermost, protective layer of the skin.
Mitosis
When human tissue cells reproduce by dividing in half creating 2 daughter cells.
Bloodborne pathogen
Infectious pathogenic microorganisms that present in blood or bodily fluids that can cause disease
Most dangerous form of skin cancer
Malignant melanoma
Non-striated muscle
Smooth muscles responsible for involuntary movements. found in internal organs (stomach, lungs and intestines)
Fungicidal
Capable of destroying fungi
Herpex simplex
A contagious skin disorder associated with a viral infection.
What is dermis
The underlying or inner layer of the skin.
Ethmoid
Spongy bone between both eye sockets. Form part of the nasal cavity.
Reticular
Deeper layer of derma located below papillary layer, supplying skin nutrients and oxygen.
Macule
An area of discoloration that appears on skins surface (freckles & birthmarks)
Excoriation
Occurs through the scraping/ scratching of the epidermal layer of the skins surface.
Tissues
Groups of similar cells that preform a specific function.
Skeletal system
The physical foundation of the body; composed of 206 bones.
Myology
The study of muscles their structures, functions & diseases.
Disinfection
The process of destroying most pathogenic bacteria and toxins on non-porous surfaces, tools, work stations, etc.
Origin
The end of a muscle attached to a non- moving section of the bone
Duct gland
Located within the dermis, secrete waste from body & deposit it on skins surface.
Lesion
A wound or mark of the skin that can be considered either a disease or disorder.
Keratoma
(Callus) a thickened or hardened area of skin caused by continued friction, rubbing & or pressure overtime.
Sebum
A mixture of fats & lipids, provides moisture to the skin & hair. Preventing skin wrinkles & hair breakage.
Bactericidal
Product capable of destroying bacteria
Sudoriferous
(Sweat glands) tube like ducts that begin in dermis and extend to epidermis by attaching themselves to hair follicles
Cholasma
(Liver spots/moth patches) non- elevated, hyper-pigmented, light to dark brown spots that scatter across face, arms and hands.
