SKILL TEST Flashcards
PPL Renewal Skills test exercises
- Stalls,
- Spiral Dives,
- Spins recovery,
- Forced Landing,
- Precautionary Landing,
- Glide approach,
- Engine Failures during/after Take Off,
- Steep Turns
Clean Stall with power SOP
- HASELL Check
ENTRY:
- Carb heat on / Fuel Pump on / Mixture Rich
- Power off
- Increase back pressure to maintain altitude
RECOVERY:
- Carb heat off at stall warning
- Relax back pressure i.e. nose down to build up speed
- Add power i.e Full Throttle
- After take off Checks ( -Brakes, - Undercarriage fixed, - Throttle / Mixture set, - Landing light off, - pump off, - Flaps down.)
Stall w/o power, 2 Stages of Flaps
HASELL Check
ENTRY:
- Carb heat on / Fuel Pump on / Mixture Rich
- Flaps to 2
- Power off
- Increase back pressure to maintain altitude
RECOVERY:
- Carb heat off
- Relax back pressure
- Add power i.e Full Throttle
- Flaps to 1
- After take off checks ( -Brakes, - Undercarriage fixed, - Throttle / Mixture set, - Landing light off, - pump off, - Flaps 0°.)
- Flaps 0°
HASELL
- Height >3,000ft
- Airframe (flaps & landing gear as req. trimmed)
- Security (hatches, harnesses)
- Engine (engine parameters in green, suction within limits, full rich Mixture)
- Location (away from town and Controlled airspace, other aircraft, )
- Look out (inspection turn)
Engine Failure on runway
- maintain centre line
- simulate:
- mixture cut off
- master switch off
- fuel selector off
- apply brakes
Engine failure after rotation with sufficient runway
- power off
- nose down
- full flap
- land
- simulate:
- mixture cut off
- master switch off
- fuel selector off
- brakes apply
Engine failure after take-off with insufficient runway
- Speed 85mph
- Field (WOSSS)
- Fault (fuel pump on, mix full rich, switch full tank)
- Flap (in stages)
- Final
After take-off checks
- Brakes apply
- Undercarriage fixed
- Throttle / Mixture set
- Landing light off
- Fuel pump off
- Flaps 0°
Steep Turn
(45° Bank angle)
- HASELL
- RPM 2,200
- Note Heading
- Note Altitude
- Anticipate roll out 20°
Precautionary landing SOP
- Initiate slow speed (Flaps 1 / 2,200 RPM)
- Select Field (WOSSSS)
- Run 1: 500ft AGL flight cross landing check, descend to 300 AGL on final and climb back to 500ft (ALWAYS LEFT TURNS)
- Run 2: from 500 ft AGL to 100ft AGL back to 500ft.
- Run 3: 500ft to short-field / soft-field landing techniques.
Forced Landing
- Mixture Rich
- Power off
- Nose down glide 85mph
- Simulate:
- mixture cut off
- master switch off
- fuel selector off
- Select field (WOSSSS)
- Simulate Mayday call
Spiral Dive Recovery
Recovery
- power idle
- wings level
- pitch nose to horizon
- decrease airspeed to 100 mph
- add full power
Spin recovery
WOSSS Checks
Wind (most important)
Obstacles
Slope
Sun
Shoot
Surface
Civilisation
Fast Descent
ENTRY:
- Carb heat on
- Throttle back (1,700 RPM)
- Mixture lean
ANTICIPATE LEVELING OUT 10% of Rate of Descend i.e. 800 ft p/m means 80 foot leveling out
LEVELING:
- Carb heat off
- Mixture slightly richer
- Throttle back to cruise RPM 2,200
