Skill In Sport Flashcards
What are the types of skill
Cognitive, perceptual skill , motor, perceptual motor
What is skill
Consistent production of a goal oriented movements which are learned and specific to a task
An athletes ability to choose the right technique of the right time with maximum certainty and minimum energy
Cognitive skill
Involves thought processes
Perceptual skill
What involves interpretation of information
Motor skill
Involves movement
Perceptual motor
Movement related skills essential to development ex hand eye coordination
Gross skills
Involve large muscle movements which are not very precise
Ex running and jumping
Fine skill
Involve intricate precise movement and small muscle groups
Hand eye coordination
Definition of open and closed continuum
Concerned with the effects of the environment on skills
Open skills
The environment is constantly changing so movements have to be continually adapted and the skills are externally paced
Soccer , hockey
Closed skills
These skills take place in stable predictable environment and the player knows what to do and when. The skill is self paced.
Free throw or tennis serve
External and internal paced continuum
Skills concerning the timing of the movement
Externally paced skills
Environment controls the rate of performing the skill
Involve reaction and are open skills
Football pass
Internally paced skills
Performer controls the rate at which the skill is executed
Closed skill
Discus javelin
Discrete serial continuous continuum
Skills concerned with how well defined the beginning and the end of the skill is
Discrete
Brief well defined action clear beginning and end
Penalty flick
Serial skill
Group of discrete skills strong together to make complex movement
Triple jump
Continuous skill
No obvious beginning and end and are repeated
Biking and swimming
Interaction continuum
Number and interaction of individuals in a skill
Individual skill
Performed in isolation
Co active skill
Performed at the same time as others but without direct confrontation
Swimming
Interactive skill
Performed while others are directly involved
Three factors ability
Perceptual
Motor
Psychometer
Interaction continuum
Number and interaction of individuals in a skill
