skill classification Flashcards
skill classification
continuum
continuum
sliding scale used to classify skills
fine skill
small, delicate muscle movements
gross skill
uses large muscle group movements
eg. movement of the biceps and triceps during a badminton drop shot
open skill
affected by the environment
ie. weather, positions of players and pressure by opposition
required to make a decision
externally paced
closed skill
involves less decision making- takes place in a more predictable place
self paced
habitual
eg. shot put
descrete skill
short time span
distinc beginning and end
eg. tennis serve
continuous skill
no clear beginning or end
end of one part of movement links to the next
eg. leg movement in cycling
serial skill
set of descrete movements linked in a particular order to form a more continuous task
occupy middle ground of continuum
eg. hop step jump must be performed in specific order in triple jump
self paced
performer controls the rate of execution
externally paced
rate of execution is outside the control of the performer, who may have to react to external conditions
complex skill
high level od decision making and has large cognitive element to it
players need to concentrate on the task and pay attention to numerous variables
skill with many subroutines
simple skill
performer has a limited amount of info to process and skill has a smaller cognitive element
performer can concentrate on task and focus and its successful completion
low-organised skill
can be broken down into parts
subroutines of task can be classified as independent actions
highly organised skill
hard to break
skill flows
parts that make up the task are integrated closely in the action
