SKILL ACQUISITION (PART4) Flashcards
Classification?
Allows us to analyse a skill on scale or continium.
Name the different categories of classification?
Difficulty
Environmental influence
Pacing
Muscular involvement
Continuity
Organisation
Task analysis
Practice and Open/Closed skills
Practice and discrete/serial/continuous skills
What are the factors effecting these categories?
How precise a movement is.
movements definite begining or end
The effect of the envirnment on performance of a skill
what is Difficulty?
Allows you to make the judgment of how complex or simple a skill is depending on the judgment and decision making involved in it, to perform the skill.
what is a complex skill?
Complex skill is when there are many decision making involved and has to be learned in stages.
What is a simple skill?
A skill is known as simple skill when there are less to non decision making involved, so it can be taught as whole in fairly repetitive way.
Give a practical example of complex skill.
A midfielder in football when passing the ball well have to make lots of decision and judgments.
Give a practical example of simple skill.
A sprint start in swimming as there are few decision to be made.
What is Environmental influence?
The effect of environment on perform a skill.
what is a open skill?
is effected by the environment therefore predominantly perceptual and and constantly needs adapting to the environment.
Externally paced.
what is a closed skill?
Is not effected by the environment, predominantly habitual and follows set pattern.
has definite end and beginning
Mostly self-paced.
Give a practical example of open skill.
A tennis serve has elements of set pattern, due to it , it predominantly closed than open. And it can be open til certain extent e.g.when the opponent serve’s there are some adjustments needed to return.
what is Pacing?
is when a performer’s skill speed is controlled by them or by an opponent.
TPYES of pacing; Self paced skill, Externally paced skill.
What is self paced skill?example
is when the performer control’s the rate at which they execute a skill, involves proaction.
EXAMPLE: Javelin throw.
what is externally paced skill? example
is when the performer’s rate at which they execute the skill is controlled by the opponent or environment. Is reaction based and example; receiving a serve in badminton.
