SKIE Flashcards
1
Q
SKIE
A
KIE effect observed when isotope incorporates into bonds not broken/formed during RDS
2
Q
When is there SKIE
A
Change in hybridisation during RDS = α-SKIE, one bond away from bond being broken
Involvement of CH/D bond in hyperconjugation in RDS = β-SKIE, two bonds away from bond being broken
3
Q
Why does change in hyperconjugation affect rate in SKIE
A
CH bond better at hyperconjugation than CD as it’s better able to stabilise the positive charge
4
Q
SKIE range
A
0.7-1.5
5
Q
Normal α-SKIE
A
Hybridisation change from sp3 to sp2 at RDS gives KH/KD > 1
6
Q
Inverse α-SKIE
A
Hybridisation change from sp2 to sp3 at RDS, gives KH/KD < 1
