Q

When is there SKIE

A

Change in hybridisation during RDS = α-SKIE, one bond away from bond being broken
Involvement of CH/D bond in hyperconjugation in RDS = β-SKIE, two bonds away from bond being broken

Q

Why does change in hyperconjugation affect rate in SKIE

A

CH bond better at hyperconjugation than CD as it’s better able to stabilise the positive charge
