Q

Movement

A

Muscles are attached to boners by tendons

There is a point of origin and insertion

This enables the skeleton to move

Q

Types of joints

A

Fixed or immovable - can move (e.g the skull)

Slightly moveable (cartilaginous) - can only move a little (e.g ribs or vertebrae)

Freely moveable (synovial) - hips shoulders and knee

Q

Structure of synovial joint

A

Synovial fluid - retained inside a pocket called the synovial membrane. This lubricates the joint

Joint capsule - outer sleeve that protects the knee and helps to hold it together

Synovial membrane - lines the capsule and secretes synovial fluid

Ligaments - what all the moving parts are held tg by

Cartilage - coverings at the end of the bones that prevents them rubbing tg and provides shock absorption
