skeletal system Flashcards
what is the function of the apendicular skeleton ?
movement and shape
name all the bones in the apendicular skeleton
scapular, ulner , fibula , tarsals , mettatarsls , clavicle , humerus , radius , pelvis , illium , carples , fillangies , femer , matacarpls , platela , tibia , talus
what is the function of the axial skelliton ?
protect important internal organs
name all the bones in the axial skelliton
cranium , cervical vertibray , thoratic vertibray , lumber vertibray , sturnum , ribs , sacrum , coxix
what are the 6 functions of the skelliton ?
shape
protect
blood production
support
movement
storage of minerals
name the types of bone
long
short
irregular
seasamoid
flat
what are the 6 types of synovial joint ?
ball and soket
hinje
saddle
condialoid
gliding
pivot
what are the 3 clasifications of joint ?
fixed
slightly moveable
freely moveable (synovial)
what is the articuar / hyaline cartalage ?
coers the neds of the bones where they meet , they are smooth so they prevent friction when the bones rub together
what is the function of ligaments ?
honds bone to bone ensuring the stability of the bone
what is the function of the synovial membrain ?
lines the synovial joint and prodices / contains the synovial fluid
what dose the synovial fluid do?
fluid that helps to reduce friction in the joints
what is the function of the menisci ?
pads of tissue that lie between the articular cartalage and sit within the synovial fluid . they act as skock absorbers redusing the impact on the bones .
what is the function of the pads of fat ?
act as friction reducers in the knee
what is the function of the bursae ?
small sacks filled with fluid , they are located where skin ligaments or bone could cause friction .
what is the function of the joint captules ?
the protective layers around the joint .
what is flection and extension?
at the elbo or knee beding or strightening
what is lateral flection?
ear to sholder
what is abduction and aduction?
at the sholder and the hip , star jump
what is horizontal abduuction and adduction?
moving the arm or leg moving at 90’ angle
what is horizontal flection and extension ?
arm moving across the body
what is medial rotaion ?
moving the knee inward
what is lateral rotation ?
moving the arm towards the body
what is circumduction ?
arm or leg moving is a circular motion
what is pronation and super nation ?
palm of hand up or down
what is dorisisflection an planter flection ?
point or flex your foot
name all the short bones
tarsals
carples
talus
name all the irregular bones
sacrum
pelvis
vertebray
name all the seasamoid bones
platela
what is a seasamoid bone
a bone attatched to a tendon
name all the long bones
humerus , redius , unlner
metacarples , phillangies
femur , tibia , fibia
clavical , metatarsals
what is the function of the vertibray column ?
protects the spinal chard / nervus system .
what are the short turm efects of exersise on the skeletal system ?
Increased production of synovial fluid within joints
Start of bone strengthening
what are the long turm effects of exersise on the skeletal system ?
Bone becomes denser
Ligaments become stronger
what is the efect of a warm up on the skeletal system ?
Prevent injury by improving blood flow
Muscles are less likely to rip .
Increases range of movement .
what is the efect of a cool down on the skeletal system ?
Helps remove lactic acid
Prevents DOMS
