Skeletal Muscles Flashcards
What is a muscle
Effector organ that responds to nervous stimulation by contraction
What is a ligament
Connect bone to bone
What are tendons
Connect bone to muscle
What are muscles said to be
Antagonistic
Define antagonistic
Effect of each muscle is opposite of the other
What is the skeletal muscles structure
- made up of many myofibrils which are divided into contractual units called sacromere
- sarcoplasm contains sarcoplasmic reticulum
- muscles fibres fused together to share nuclei and sarcoplasm
- myosin and actin filaments overlaps strengthening the muscles
What are the divisions of a skeletal muscle
Muscle tissues —> bundles of muscles —> fibre —> single muscle fibres — > myofibrils — > sacromere
What happens to H band during contraction
Decreases
What happened to i band during contraction
Decreases
What happens to A band during muscle contractions
Stay the same
What happens to Z discs during contraction
Closer together
3 types of muscles and where hey are found
Cardiac found in the heart
Skeletal found in walls of gut and blood vessels
Smooth attached to our bones under volunteers control
