How is resting potential maintained
A
- maintained by Na+/k+ pump invoking active transport and ATP
- 3 Na+ actively transported out and 2 k+ transported in
- higher concentration of Na+ outside and higher concentration k+ inside, inside of neurone is negative
- causes and electrochemical gradient so k+ so they diffuse out and Na+ can diffuse in
- membrane is more permeable to k+
