What are the traits of Infectious Rhinitis/Sinusitis?
Viral cause
Discolored nasal secretions w/ neutrophils and maybe bacteria
Purulent discharge
What is the Appearance of a child with large adenoids?
Mouth breathing with elongated face
What are the traits of Adenoiditis?
Chronic Adenoid infection
Nasal congestion. Clear to purulent rhinorhea
Can regress with age
What effect does inflammation in the nose have on lower airway?
Increases lower airway hyperresponsiveness

CT Scanning
Labs: WBC normal

What are the Tx trategies for sinus infection?
Steroids (Oral, Nasal)
Abtx with anaerobic coverage
Amoxicillin-clavulanate
Antihistamies/decongestants (Afrin)
What is the MOA of Afrin
Alpha Adrenergic agonist similar to phenylephrine
