Paralysis of all muscles of one side of face
Sudden onset
Absence of signs of CNS path
Absence of Ear or CPA dis
Where is the narrowest point of the path of the Facial nerve?
Internal Genu of the Facial nerve
What is the Dx/Tx of Bell’s Palsy?
MRI w/ gandolinium and Audiometric Testing
High dose Steroids and Antivirals
Take care of eye
No surgery
What are Complications to Bell’s Palsy?
Corneal Abrasion
Loss of taste, chronic facial spasm, facial pain
What are the traits of Ramsay Hunt syndrome?
Herpes Zoster
More severe Sx: Red, swollen, inflamed
Worse Prognosis
What are the traits of Acoustic Neromas?
Vestibular Schwannoma
Slow growing benign tumor of myelin cells of Vest Cochlear n
What are the Sx of Acoustic Neuroma?
Sudden hearing loss
New onset tinnitus
Vertigo/imbalance
Facial Palsy, pain, numbness
How is Acoustic Neuroma Dx?
MRI with Gadolinium if Sx present
What is the Tx of Acoustic Neuroma?
Surgery vs Gamma knife radiation vs watchful waiting
What are the traits of Glomus Tumors?
Paraganglioma
Can occur in the middle ear and posterior fossa
Pulsitile Tinnitus
