Sinking pulse Flashcards
SINKING PULSES characteristics and # of types
sinks gradually but it’s strongish
and
can only be felt when pressure is applied down to level of tendons/bones
There are 5 types
HIDDEN PULSE
DEEPER than sinking pulse
only felt with STRONG pressure to bone level
FIRM PULSE
is sinking strong & full
Has a big body and feels long & wiry
FULL PULSE
is a sinking pulse,
if FIRMER THAN THE FIRM PULSE
AND
HAS A STRONG BEAT
WEAK PULSE
is sinking
SOFT & WEAK w/o STRENGTH
feels _fine & small_ like a thread of cotton
THIN PULSE
is sinking
SMALLER than a weak pulse
FINE like a spider web
SINKING PULSE means
INTERNAL EXCESS (usually phlegm or cold)
When bad QI is internal it causes STAGNATION OF QI & BLOOD
which means the pulse feels deep & strong
SINKING STRONG pulse means
There is is internal excess (usually phlegm or cold).
When bad Qi is internal it causes stagnation of QI & BLOOD soooo the pulse feels deep and strong.
SINKING WEAK means
There is INTERNAL DEFICIENCY
When yang qi is DEFICIENTthe QI sinks and stangnates and is unable to raise the pulse
soooo the pulse feels deep but w/o strength
HIDDEN pulse means
DEEPER THAN SINKING PULSE
means bad qi trapped internally (usually its cold generating heat)
the pulse becomes hidden due to the stagnation of qi & blood caused by the bad qi bloocking the the the true qi from spreading and do its job
FIRM PULSE means
That its deeper than the sinking pulse
is long, strong big WIRY
means that there is CHRONIC YIN COLD ACCUMULATION (can be at the qi or blood level)
There is very strong perverse qi thats making it feel big & strong.
FULL PULSE means
Normally felt at all 3 levels
VERY STRONG, BIG, WIRY, LONG
means that there is excessive conditions
this happens cause the bad qi is fighting with the upright qi
WEAK PULSE means
it is sinking
feels weak & thin
means INSUFFICIENT QI & BLOOD (deficient or damaged yin jing w failure of Ying Qi)
THIN pulse is sinking and means
feels weak, very thin, wiry
QI & Blood both deficient (especially blood)
or
stagnation of perverse damp in channels
- this happens when there is insuffcient blood & qi to fill it OR*
- when the arteries are blocked & constricted by perverse damp*
