Floating Pulses Flashcards
FLOATING PULSES are felt when _______ pressure is applied; There ____ number of floating pulses
LIGHT 7
FLOODING PULSE is floating. It feels
strong, full , rough, as it rises and falls
EMPTY PULSE is floating. It feels
weak, full and soft, slower
SCATTERED PULSE is floating. It feels
feels more diffuse than an empty pulse BUT dissapears when pressure is applied
HOLLOW PULSE is floating. It feels
w/o “subtance at it’s center” You can feel the edge but not the middle
LEATHER PULSE is floating. it feels
wiry, rapid than a hollow pulse
SOFT PULSE is floating. it feels
fine w/o strength, “like a piece of cotton floating on water”
MINUTE PULSE is a floating pulse, it feels
smaller & softer than a soft pulse. It will disapear intermitingly under slight pressure.
FLOODING PULSE means there is
Means there is ABUNDANT INTERNAL HEAT sometimes with Yin deficincey
Lots of internal head make arteries expand so pulse is strong and superficial (big pulse)
disease is deficient if the pulse is weak; its excess if the pulse is strong
Heat damages yin! so when yin qi is deficient internally the yang qi floats outwart to become flooding
FLOATING STRONG PULSE is /means
strong & floating
MEANS that there is superficial excess
happens when bad qi attachks muscles and the wei qi resists
FLOATING WEAK means
Superfical deficiency (caused by blood deficincey)
When blood is deficient & unable to support the qi the qi “jumps” to the exterior but it is still w/o strength
EMPTY PULSE MEANS
Deficiency of Qi & Blood
It is slow weak but big
Not enough qi to move blood so it becomes slow, veins become big flabby, so it feels slow, weak and what little qi is left jumps to surface…..
SCATTERED PULSE means
Yuan Qi (which is prenatatl nourished by post natal) is scattered….
means bothe QI & BLOOD is exhausted.
rememeber this is very weak and big
MEANS STOMACH QI, POSTNATAL ESSENCE IS EXHAUSTED so pulse has no root cant be felt at middle level
HOLLOW PULSE means
Hollow Pulse is w/o “subtance at it’s center” You can feel the edge but not the middle
means SEVERE LOSS OF BLOOD (YIN DAMAGE) so there’s a superficial excess with internal deficiency
when the yin blood is deficient internally the pulse is “without substance in center” cause the yang qi has no where to adhere so it goes to the edges.
LEATHERY means
damaged jing blood w cold (qi is defficient and not consolodated, so jing blood cant be stored so it scatters and floats)
weak, no substance in center, wiry
