Rapid Pulse Flashcards
RAPID PULSE there are # of rapid pulses
There are 4 types: slippery, tight, hasty, & moving pulses They result from a DEFICIENCY of YIN and an EXCESS of YANG.
SLIPPERY PULSE is a rapid pulse that
comes & goes freely
a TIGHT PULSE is a rapid pulse that
VIBRATES TO THE LEFT & RIGHT LIKE
A
TIGHTLY STRETCHED ROPE felt at middle level
a HASTY PULSE is a rapid pulse
which is FELT MAINLY at the CUN POSITION
it sometimes rests for one beat at irregular intervals
felt @ MIDDLE LEVEL
a MOVING PULSE is a rapid pulse
with a STRONG, FIRM BEAT which feels like a BEAN under the finger.
MAINLY FELT @ GUAN position.
a RAPID STRONG AND RAPID WEAK pulse mean
RAPID STRONG pulse: means EXCESSIVE HEAT
(heat causes the pulse to accelerate, hence it beomes rapid)
RAPID WEAK pulse: means DEFICIENCY HEAT
a SLIPPERY PULSE means
There is STAGNANT PHLEGM or STAGNANT FOOD
w/ ABUNDANT HEAT
- (SLIPPERY PULSE is produced by blood swirling through the blood vessels making it feel ROUND & SLIPPERY.*
- This indicates disease BUT can occur in healthy people means they have abundant qi & blood*
a TIGHT PULSE means
there is COLD PAIN sometimes w/ retention of food
- it feels tight & wiry*
- [it indicates increased yin (due to perverse qi) w/decreased yang.*
- (When the perverse cold contracts, the vessels become stretched out so the pulse becomes tight.)*
a HASTY PULSE means
there is EXCESSIVE YANG HEAT w/YIN thats not in harmony. (cause there is damaged yin)
Sometimes it rests for one beat @ irregular intervals
You can get this pulse when there is excessive yang that causes heat to stagnate in the triple burner - so this is at the blood level……….
a MOVING PULSE means
that YIN & YANG is FIGHTING w. each other
It feels SLIPPERY & WIRY and strong.
{either there is confusion & scurrying of qi cause by fight (yin losses) or pain caused by qi being blocked by blood (yang losses)
