Simple Phenomena of Magnetism Flashcards
1
Q
What is induced magnetism?
A
Magnetic induction is when another object becomes magnetized. This occurs because of magnetic domains. Magnetic domains in unmagnetized domains are random, but sort when in contact with a magnet.

Q
(Practical) Finding a Magnetic Field:
A
- Place a card on top of the magnet
- Sprinkle iron fillings
- tap card
- use plotting compasses to find directions

Q
What is the difference between temporary and permanent magnets?
A
Iron Magnets are temporary whilst steel ones are permanent.
Iron is magnetically soft, steel is the opposite.
