Mass, Weight and Density Flashcards
What is Mass?
The amount of matter something takes up
What is a gravitational field?
I is a region of space where masses exert forces of attraction on one another
How is g (gravity) defined?
g = W/m
gravitational field strength = Weight (N) / Mass (kg)
What is Density?
Density is how much mass is packed into a space:
p = m / v
density = mass / volume
Why do immiscible liquids have order?
Some liquids are more dense than the other, the denser, the lower the position.
What are the effects of forces?
- Changing Size
- Changing Shape
- Changing Direction
What is the formula for the spring constant?
K = F / x
Spring constant = Force / extension
What is the limit of proportionality?
It is when the extension is no longer directly proportional to the load.
What is a resultant force and what does it do?
A resultant force is tje extra force, it may change velocity and the direction of motion
What is friction?
Friction is a resistive force, opposite to motion.
How is a circular path created?
- A constant changing velocity
- a non-zero resultant force
- a perpendicular force to the motion of an object
- A constant direction change
What is the moment of a force?
It is the turning effect of a force.
Moment of a force = F x d
(force x direction)
What is the principle of moments?
This is when the total clockwise moment is equal to the total anticlockwise moment. This is also called equillibrium.
What is th centre of gravity?
It is the point of an object where the weight of the object acts.
How do you locate the centre of gravity?
In regular and uniform desity shapes, it is at the geometrical center.
