Q

What is the principle of moments?

A

This is when the total clockwise moment is equal to the total anticlockwise moment. This is also called equillibrium.

Q

How do you locate the center of gravity on an irregularly shaped lamina?

A
  1. Make a plumb line ( a weighted line attached to a pendulum bob)
  2. Make holes on the edges of the lamine
  3. Hang the lamina on a retort stand
  4. hang the plumb line over the lamina
  5. trace the plumb lines and repeat with the other holes
    1. The point of intersection is the centre of gravity

Q

What are the types of equillibrium?

A
  1. Stable equillibrium
  2. Unstable equillibium
  3. Neutral equillibrium
