Motion Flashcards
What is Speed?
Speed = Distance Travelled / Time Taken
How does Distance differ with Displacement?
Distance is the total length, displacement is the shortest distance and direction from the starting point.
What is Velocity?
Velocity = Displacement / Time
What is Acceleration?
a = (v - u) / t
acceleration = (final velocity - initial velocity) / time taken
What can a distance-time graph show you?
Distance, Time, Speed (as the gradient)
What does a speed-time graph show you?
The gradient shows acceleration, the area under the graph shows distance.
What is the acceleration of free fall?
9.8m/s2
How do objects fall without air resistance?
Free fall can only happen when the only acting force is weight.
What is air resistance?
- It is a form of friction.
- It opposes the motion of Moving Objects
- It increases with the surface area/size of the moving objects
- It increases with air density
- It increases with speed of motion
What is terminal velocity?
When the air resistance is equal to the weight of the object. When there is uniform velocity.
