- Margaret disliked Henry for the death of Richard and removal of burgundy trading rights granted by Edward IV
- worried about Henry as he was sponsored by France, their main rival
- She gave shelter to Lovell and Lincoln and recognised Simnel as her nephew
what happened in the lead up to the rebellion?
- raised 2k mercenaries while in burgundy under Schwartz
- in jan 1487 simnel and Lincolns remainders landed in Dublin, then they arrived in Ireland in april
where did simnel get support?
- leading Irish magnates accepted Lincoln and simnel
- earl of Kildare (most powerful magnate) was lord deputy and caused simnel to be crowned
