stroke from umbilicus to any quadrant
upper quadrants = T6-9
lower quadrants = T10-12
abdominal reflexes (interpret)
should deviate toward where you scratch
decreased in lesion to nerve roots or UMN
Anal wink (describe)
stroke skin near anus, should contract
anal wink (interpret)
if no contraction, S3-5 nerve root lesion
cremasteric reflex (describe)
stroke skin inner thigh of male
ipsilateral testicle should elevate
cremasteric reflex (interpret)
damage to L1-2 nerve roots if no elevation
bolbocavernous reflex (describe)
squeeze glans of penis and observe anal sphincter contraction
bulbocavernous reflex (interpret)
S3-4 nerve roots if no reflex elicited
frontal sign reflexes
should disappear after infancy, if present, probably Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, bihemispheric stroke
snout reflex
frontal sign
tap upper lip and watch for puckering
palmomental reflex
frontal sign
scratch thenar eminence, watch for ipsilateral mentalis contraction
