How to measure the respiration rate
-by counting the amount of rise and fall of the animals chest visually.
- Or place hand over flank of animal and count it that way
What does the Capillary refill time mean
capillary refill timing is how long it takes for blood to return to a section of the capillary system after its supply has been interrupted.
Where would you test the capillary refill time?
On the mucous membranes (gum)
What are the 4 daily checks you should do on an animal?
- Behaviour
- Faeces and urine
- Food intake and water
- Movement and gait
What are the weekly checks to do on an animal
- Appearance of eyes, nose, teeth and ears
- Appearance of skin, coat and fur
- Appearance of mucous membrane
- Appearance of limbs and feet
- Genitals and anal area
- Signs of coughing, sneezing or vomiting
What does a white mucous membrane suggest
animal is in shock
What does a pink mucous membrane suggest
it is normal
What does a red mucous membrane suggest
sign of an infection or heat stroke
What does a blue mucous membrane suggest
low oxygen in the blood
