A

fever, swollen face, nasal discharge and salivations

17
Q

Symptoms of foot and mouth

A

fever, blisters int he mouth, excessive salivation and drooling blistering on the feet

18
Q

Symptoms of Newcastle disease

A

Breathing difficulties, coughing, depressed appearance, twisted head and neck and reduced egg production

19
Q

What is a zoonotic disease

A

a zoonotic disease is an infectious disease that can be passed on to humans

20
Q

What special measures must be in place

A

handlers must wear appropriate PPE
Infecton control practices must be in place to prevent the spread of disease (known as barrier nursing )
Isolating rooms for infected animals

21
Q

Examples of zoonotic diseases

A
  • Ringworm
  • Salmonella
  • Campylobacter
  • Cat Scratch Fever
  • Leptospirosis
  • Lyme Diseases
  • Psittacosis
  • Cheyletiella
  • Sarcastic mange
  • Toxoplasmosis
22
Q

What is Ringworm

A

Ringworm is not a worm it’s a fungus which lives on top layer of the skin and hair follicles, and is spread through direct contact. It is not life - threatening

23
Q

What is Salmonella

A

it is a bacterial infection of the intestine that many animals carry without becoming ill. The bacteria can be passed on to unborn animals from their mother, or by direct contact. The bacteria are present in faces and can then contaminate

24
Q

What is Campylobacter

A

A bacterial infection that lives in the gut.

25
Q

What is Cat scratch fever

A

it is a bacterial infection carried by cats but rarely gets ill. Spreads between cats by a flea vector

26
Q

What is Leptospirosis

A

It is a bacterial disease spread through the urine of animals, often passed on through contaminated water

27
Q

What is Lyme disease

A

A bacterial disease transmitted by a tick vector. It is not transmitted directly from animals to animals

28
Q

What is Psittacosis

A

Caused by a bacteria this disease known as parrot fever. however it can occur in a number of different animals, with different symptoms. Spread through droppings or other bodily secretion

29
Q

What is Cheyletiella

A

it is mites that live on the surface of the skin that look like dandruff. More common on dogs, cats and rabbits

30
Q

What is Sarcastic Mange

A

a disease of the skin caused by a mite that burrows through the skin. Spread through direct contact or via fomites

31
Q

What is Toxoplasmosis

A

a parasite found in most mammals but cats are a host for its lifecycle, which means it can only lay eggs in a cat
