What is Sideroblastic Anaemia?
A
A group of inherited and acquired bone marrow disorders characterised by pathological iron accumulation in the mitochondria of erythoid precursors

What causes Sideroblastic anaemia?
A
Congenital: mutation of enzymes in gene synthesis (X-linked, rare)
Acquired: nutritional deficiency (copper, B6), Alcohol, Drugs, Lead excess

What is would the Sideroblastic anaemia blood test result be?
A
FERRITIN: high TIBC: normal Serum iron: high MCV: low MCH: low MCHC: low

What would the blood film show in Sideroblastic anaemia?
A
Microcytic hypochromic cells
Ring Sideroblasts in marrow with peri-nuclear ring of iron granules

How is sederoblastic anaemia treated?
A
Remove the cause
Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6 in B6 deficiency)
