Shoulders and Arms Pt. 2 Flashcards
Rhomboid Major and Minor Action
Adduct the scapula
Elevate the scapula
Downwardly rotate the scapula
Rhomboid Major Origin
Spinous process of T-2 to T-5
Rhomboid Minor Origin
Spinous process of C-7 and T-1
Rhomboid Major Insertion
Medial border of the scapula between the spine of the scapula and the inferior angle
Rhomboid Minor Insertion
Upper portion of the medial border of the scapula, across from the spine and scapula
Levator Scapula Action
Unilaterally:
Elevate the scapula
Downwardly rotate the scapula
Laterally flex the head and neck
Rotate the head and neck to the same side
Bilaterally: Extend the head and neck
Levator Scapula Origin
Transverse process of the first through forth cervical vertebrae
Levator Scapula Insertion
Medial border of the scapula, between superior angle and superior portion of the spine of the scapula
Serratus Anterior Action
Abduct the scapula
Upwardly rotate the scapula
Hold the medial border of the scapula against the rib cage
(With the scapula fixed: May elevate thorax during forced inhalation)
Serratus Anterior Origin
External surfaces of upper 8 or 9 ribs
Serratus Anterior Insertion
Anterior surface of the medial border of the scapula
Pectoralis Major Action: All fibers
Adduct the shoulder
Medially rotate the shoulder
Assist to elevate the thorax during forced inhalation
Pectoralis Major Action: Upper fibers
Flex the shoulder
Horizontally adduct the shoulder
Pectoralis Major Action: Lower fibers
Extend the shoulder
Pectoralis Major Origin
Medial half of the clavicle, sternum, and cartilage of the first through sixth rib
Pectoralis Major Insertion
Crest of the greater tubercle of the humerus
Pectoralis Minor Action
Depress the scapula
Abduct the scapula
Downwardly rotate the scapula
With the scapula fixed: Assist to elevate the thorax during forced inhalation
Pectoralis Minor Origin
Third, fourth, and fifth ribs
Pectoralis Minor Insertion
Medial surface of coracoid process of the scapula
Subclavius Action
Depress the clavicle and draw it anteriorly
Elevate the first rib (to assist in inhalation)
Stabilize the sternoclavicular joint
Subclavius Origin
First rib and cartilage
Subclavius Insertion
Inferior surface of the middle one third of the clavicle
Bicep Brachii Action
Flex the elbow
Supinate the forearm
Flex the shoulder
Bicep Brachii Origin: short and long head
Short head:
Coracoid process of scapula
Long Head:
Supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula
Bicep Brachii Insertion
Tuberosity of the radius and aponeurosis of the bicep brachii
Tricep Brachii Action: all heads, long heads
All Heads:
Extend the elbow
Long Head:
Extend the shoulder
Adduct the shoulder
Tricep Brachii Origin: Long, Medial, Lateral
Long head:
Infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula
Lateral Head:
Posterior surface of proximal half of the humerus
Medial Head:
Posterior surface of distal half of the humerus
Is the long head of the Tricep more medial or lateral than the lateral head to the body?
Medial
Is the medial head of the tricep positioned anteriorly or posteriorly?
Posteriorly
Medial Head of the Tricep location
Deep to the lateral and long head
Is the short head of the Bicep more medial or laterally than the long head to the body?
Medial
Coracobrachialis Origin
Coracoid process of the scapula
Coracobrachialis Insertion
Medial surface of the mid-humeral shaft
Coracobrachialis Action
Flex the shoulder
Adduct the shoulder
