Shoulder Structures/Joints & Ligaments Flashcards
An ‘S’ shaped bone which connects the upper limb to the axial skeleton
Clavicle
The clavicle end that connects to the scapula
Acromial End
The clavicle end that connects to the manubrium
Sternal End
The top part of the breastbone
Manubrium
A triangular bone, sitting flat against rib cage from the 2nd-7th ribs, connecting the clavicle to the humerus
Scapula
The lateral tip of the shoulder, projecting anteriorly
Projecting over the head of the humerus
Acromion
Aka. “Ravens Beak”. Projects superoanteriorly
Coracoid Process
Small tubercle at the superior margin of the glenoid cavity for the origin of the long head of the biceps.
Supraglenoid Tubercle
Cavity where the head of the humerus articulates with the scapula
Glenoid Fossa (Cavity)
Small tubercle at the inferior margin of the glenoid cavity for the origin of the long head of the triceps.
Infraglenoid Tubercle
AKA. Axillary Border - “armpit”
Facing the humerus
Lateral Border
Lower angle of the scapula
Inferior Angle
Concavity on the costal surface.
Subscapular Fossa
AKA. Vertebral Border.
Border of the scapula facing the vertebral column
Medial Border
Upper medial angle of the scapula
Superior Angle
Indentation in the superior margin of the scapula
Suprascapular Notch
Fossa that extends from above the spinous process to the superior margin of the scapula.
Supraspinous Fossa
Long bony ridge on the posterior scapular surface extending into the acromion
Spine of the Scapula
Sometimes referred to the medial end of the spine
Root of the Spine
An indent/fossa below the spine of the scapula
Infraspinous Fossa
A functional joint articulating with the thorax and scapula - not an anatomical joint
Scapulothoracic Joint (S-T Joint)
A saddle joint at the sternal end of the clavicular articulating with the manubrium motioning an S/I and A/P glide
Sternoclavicular Joint (S-C Joint)
The Sternoclavicular Joint is strengthen by 3 ligaments
- Sternoclavicular
- Interclavicular
- Costoclavicular (
Term for falling on an outstretched arm
Foosh
A plane joint at the acromial end of clavicular articulating with the acromion of scapula motioning an A/P glide and rotation
Acromioclavicular Joint (A-C Joint)
Ligament attachment from the clavicle to the acromion
Acromioclavicular Ligament
Ligament attachment from the coracoid process to the acromion
Coracoacromial Ligament
An arch formed by the: Coracoid Process/Coracoacromial Ligament/Acromion
Coracoacromial Arch
The Trapezoid and Conoid Ligament make up what ligament?
-It attaches from the coracoid process to the clavicle
Coracoclavicular Ligament
