Shoulder Muscles Flashcards
Serratus Anterior
Concentrically accelerates scapular protraction
Rhomboid Major
Concentrically produces scapular retraction and downward rotation
Rhomboid Minor
Concentrically produces scapular retraction and downward rotation
Lower traps
Concentrically accelerates scapular depression
Middle traps
Concentrically accelerates scapular retraction
Upper traps
- Concentrically accelerates cervical extension, lateral flexion, and rotation
- concentrically accelerates scapular elevation
Pec Major
[two diff parts-clavicular and sternocostal]
-Concentrically accelerates shoulder flexion (think underhand throw), horizontal adduction (arms raised to front not side), and internal rotation of humerus
*keeps arm attached to trunk of body
Pec Minor
Concentrically protracts scapula (aka the wings; scapula attaches humerus and clavicle)
Anterior Deltoid
Concentrically accelerates shoulder flexion and internal rotation
Medial deltoid
Concentrically accelerates shoulder abduction
Posterior deltoid
Concentrically accelerates shoulder extension and external rotation
Teres Major
Concentrically accelerates shoulder internal rotation, adduction, and extension
