Lower Leg Muscles Flashcards
Anterior tibialis
Concentrically accelerates dorsiflexion and inversion
Posterior tibialis
Concentrically accelerates plantarflexion and inversion of the foot
Soleus
Accelerates Plantarflexion of the foot
Gastrocnemius
Accelerates Plantarflexion of foot
Peroneus Longus
Plantarflexion and everts the foot (on long side of anterior tibia)
Biceps femoris (long head)
Accelerates knee flexion and hip extension
Externally rotates tibia
*in hammie complex (in middle)
Bicep femoris-short head
Accelerates knee flexion and externally rotates tibia
Semimembranous
Concentrically accelerates knee flexion, hip extension, and internally rotates tibia
*in hammie complex(toward inner thigh)
Semitendinosus
Accelerates knee flexion, hip extension, and internally rotates tibia
Vastus lateralis
Vastus medialis
Vastus intermedius
In quads (outer side aka lateral, inner, and middle=intermedius) Accelerates knee extension
Rectus femoris
Accelerates knee extension and hip flexion
*Attached from iliac spine of pelvis to patella, in mid quad
