Mazion’s test
Shoulder
Pte places Palm to the opposite shoulder
Elbow cannot be made to touch chest, or with pain
Dislocated shoulder (Dugas sign)
Apprehension / crank test
Shoulder
Pte lays face up. Examiner abducts arm to 90 degree and externally rotate shoulder
Look of apprehension
Glenohumeral instability
Relocation test

Same as apprehension test except examiner presses on pte’s humeral head
Relief of pain while doing
Glenohumeral instability
Sulcus sign (inferior shoulder instability)

Grasp forearm below elbow, then pull down
Look for sulcus below acromion

Feagin test
Shoulder
Pete places arm on examiner’s shoulder. Examiner uses both hands to clasp and grab pte’s forearm and push interior and anteriorly
Look of apprehension
Anterior interior instability of glenhumeral joint
Clunk test
Shoulder
Pte lays face up with arm abduct and behind head. Examiner stands behind pte, place one hand on the pte’s elbow and the other underneath pte’s shoulder, then lift up shoulder.
Clunk sound

Spring test
Shoulder
Pte seated. Examiner places one hand on the inferior angle of scapular and the other one on the distal clavicle (vertically), then press down
Pain or popping of AC joint
AC joint seperation
Acromioclavicular test
Shoulder
Similar to the spring test but places one hand on the spine of scapular and the other on the clavicle, clasps and squeeze hands together
Pain or abnormal movement of AC joint
AC joint sprain or dislocation
Empty can test
Shoulder
Examiner stands behind pte. Arms and hands spread out with thumb point (1) points up, (2) points down (3) point back. Resist abduction by the pte.
Pain or shoulder weakness
Supraspinatus tendinosis
Drop arm test
Shoulder
Pte abducts arm above head, then slowly drops arm fully
Pte unable to do it slowly or severe pain
Rotator cuff tear
Hawkins- Kennedy test
Shoulder "Look, it's Kennedy. It's twisted" Pte points. Examiner twist forearm medially Pain Supraspinatus tendonosis
Neer impingement test
Shoulder "Near the ear" Pte arm abduct up and near the ear. Examiner grabs forearm and medially rotates. Shoulder pain Supraspinatus or biceps tendon overuse
Speed’s test
Shoulder "Hey buddy" Pte seated and arm is 45 degree flexed. Examiner grabs bicipital groove on one hand and hold the pte's forearm with the other, then resists pte from extending out Pain in bicipital groove Bicipital paratendonosis
Yergason’s test
Shoulder
“You’re gone son”
Pte’s elbow flexed 90 degree and probated. Examiner resiste pte from rotating arm out and supinate.
Popping
Bicipital tendonosis/ Torn transverse ligament
Apley’s scratch test
Shoulder
Pte puts both hands to back of head, then puts both hands to lower back
Decrease ROM
Frozen shoulder
