Shoulder Flashcards
Where is the superior glenohumeral ligament and what does it do?
Anteriorly situated. Originates from superior aspect of glenoid, inserts on anatomical neck of humerus. Limits external rotation and inferior translation of humeral head
Where is the middle glenohumeral ligament and what does it do?
Originates beneath the SGHL on the glenoid and inserts on anatomical neck of humerus. Limits external rotation and inferior translation of the humeral head
Where is the inferior glenohumeral ligament and what does it do?
Originates beneath the MGHL and inserts on the humerus just beyond lesser tuberosity. Limits external rotation and superior, anterior and inferior translation of the humeral head
Where are the coracoclavicular ligaments and what do they do?
Both portions originate from the coracoid process and insert on either the conoid or trapezoid processes on the inferior aspect of the clavicle. Provides horizontal stability to the ACJ and prevents superior translation of the clavicle relative to the scapula
Where is the acromioclavicular ligament and what does it do?
Joins the lateral surface of the clavicle to the medial surface of the acromion. Reinforces joint capsule and serves as the primary restraint to posterior translation of the clavicle relative to the scapula
Where is the sternoclavicular ligament and and what does it do?
The SCL has anterior and posterior portions, which each connect the medial end of the clavicle to the manubrium of the sternum. Provides the primary anteroposterior stabilization of the SC joint, and prevents excessive superior translation of clavicle
