Knee Flashcards
Where is the medial collateral ligament?
From medial epicondyle of femur runs inferiorly about 4-6 inches to medial surface of tibia
Where is lateral collateral ligament?
Lateral epicondyle of femur to head of fibula
Where is the anterior cruciate ligament?
Posteromedial aspect of the lateral condyle of the femur down and forwards to intercondylar area on tibial plateau
What direction is the ACL situated in?
It is angled forwards, down and in, like your hand would when you’re putting it in a pocket
Where is the posterior cruciate ligament?
anterolateral aspect of the medial femoral condyle and inserts along the posterior aspect of the tibial plateau
Which is thicker/ stronger: ACL or PCL?
PCL
How do you test the MCL/ vagus stress test?
One hand above lateral knee right on joint line, other hand on medial lower leg. You are trying to stretch the inside of their knee by pressing on lateral side of knee with joint line hand.
Do with leg straight and also with knee a little bent to stress the fibres that attach to meniscus
How do you test the LCL- varus stress test?
One hand above medial knee right on joint line, other hand on lower leg. You are trying to stretch the outside of their knee by pressing on lateral side of knee with joint line hand. Only do with leg straight (not like MCL, which you also test with leg bent)
How do you test the ACL?
anterior drawer test
How do you test the PCL?
Posterior drawer test or posterior sag test
